Unit 9. Phrases: vii°⁶

In addition to inversions of tonic and cominant to create complete progressions, we can use the dominant substitute, vii°⁶. Now we have a chord to harmonize scale degree 2 in the bass. These progressions use only I, I⁶, V, V⁶, V7, and vii°⁶.

Directions:

  • Write in the soprano notes on the staff, and the scale degree numbers above all the soprano notes. The first note is given.

  • Write in the bass notes on the staff. The first note is given.

  • Write the Roman numerals below the staff. The first Roman numeral is given.
